Vet and Owner Reviews

Karl & the team were fantastic & really seemed to care about Buddy, our 10 year old retriever needing cruciate surgery. Now a couple of months later he has a complete new lease of life for which we are grateful. We’re so glad that this practice was recommended & would recommend it ourselves without hesitation.

Excellent service would definitely recommend. Our choc lab needed a very large fatty lump from inside her right leg. Our vet couldn’t do it, so referred us to Karl and the team. Professional service
She’ll be a lot happier in 3 days when hopefully the cone can come off

Thank you again Karl and the team

We were very impressed with the treatment that Karl delivered for our dog. Our dog had suffered from a cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) injury which resulted in him limping.
Our dog underwent a tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) which decreases the posterior slope and makes up for a non functional CCL. Our dog has had an excellent result at just over 2 months from the operation. I have been reconstructing anterior cruciate ligaments for over 2 decades in humans so had a particular interest.

Karl was one of the most empathetic vets we have used. He talked through and explained every part of the process to us. As someone who was deeply in shock and in a bad state of mind he was very patient and kind. I couldn’t recommend anyone more highly. he did the absolute best for my dog. Thank you, we will always be grateful..

Karl showed our dog Luna (and us!) so much genuine care and kindness throughout a long series of operations and recovery periods which were more complex than we had all hoped. He was a reassuring presence for every appointment, phone call and email, and his passion for helping animals is very clear to see.

We are so thankful to Karl and the team for all their hard work and dedication in getting our beautiful rescue girl back on her feet and doing what she loves - out walking & exploring again.

We would absolutely recommend Orthopaedic Vet Ashbourne to anyone who needs them.

Thank you so much Karl & co!

Our Cockerpoo Molly was diagnosed by our vet as having a luxating patella on her left hind leg, so they operated and it seemed to go well at first. Unfortunately, when we went back for a check up, it was found that the kneecap was still slipping out of place, so our vet sent a message to the Ashbourne Orthopaedic Vets on our behalf. We went on Tuesday 12th November 2024 for an initial appointment and Karl explained the procedure and the total costs in advance, so that there were no surprises, should surgery be deemed necessary. We were asked to take her back for X-rays the following day and we received a telephone call whist she was still under the anaesthetic advising that it would be in the best interests if they could operate straight away. Upon collecting Molly that evening, Karl explained the required care package in great detail, (the pain relief medication needed, (which was included in the total cost), how long and often per walk, when the times of walking could be increased, when we needed to go back for check-ups, etc). We even received a 'Goody Bag', with a blanket, treats, etc, which was unexpected. We went on Friday 10th January for her 8 week X-rays and we were advised that everything was now stable and she could be let off the lead on her walks, but "Take things steady". It was so emotional to see her able to run free again. We may have had to spend every night downstairs with her since the operation but it has truly been worth it. We are so lucky that the practice is only 11 miles away from our home, but we would have gladly driven anywhere in the UK to have made her better. We really cannot thank Karl, Bart and all of the team for giving our forever friend the best life possible. We would have no hesitation in recommending your practice to anyone. We would give you many more than 5 stars, if it was possible. We have included photographs of the evening of her operation and another one of her off the lead on this mornings walk. Kindest Regards ~ Linda, Tim and Molly the Cockerpoo x x 🐾
